I know there's a poll up front, but I'm more interested in hearing from others.
I don't have RIP, so I can't comment on that, unfortunately.
I love all the others and it did take me years to appreciate them. I was young, so couldn't really get the complexity, but I was always drawn to givng the albums a spin from time to time.
I recently got Grin and love it for it's dark, yet complex sound, but I'm currently listening to No More Color and low the rawness and the speed and the frequent change ups. It's very powerful. Mental Vortex blended a bit of the power and speed of NMC, while bringing them into that "mature" sound with a bit more polish. PFD is just raw and fast and I love it.
Hmmmm... so hard to decide. I love Grin. It's no less interesting than any of the others. No More Color is so interesting. I have to give it to Mental Vortex.

Count my vote for No More Color. Great all the way through, and the last album before their sound changed (see my thread about all the recordings after this album). Mental Vortex comes in second, with the rest following in no particular order.

No more Color, Die by my hand is all I need to know about it. Punishment For Decadence, great cd Grin, very even throughout and Tommys guitar tone is great on this disc.

It's Mental Vortex for me because of the writing. Great riffs, great solos, great everything. The only complaint I have about it is that many of the songs are very similar in tempo and arrangement, and it would have also helped to have more variation in the guitar tones. Nevertheless, still a killer record!
Grin comes in second. There are a couple slightly boring songs and at times it seems to stretch for a bit too long, but its till a classic.

I don't have RIP, so I can't comment on that, unfortunately. R.I.P. stands out as being the most different to me. It is wonderfully dark and shows lots of potential (Nosferatu, Totentanz, Reborn Through Hate, R.I.P. etc) but isn't quite as varied and controlled as later releases. My favourite rotates between them all, right now it's Grin. ...but I have the strongest urge to dig out PFD once more...

No More Color for me, the production was the best out of the first three albums (just wish we could hear more bass though, like on the first two), with razor sharp riffs and all, and a decent variety. Granted, I've played most of them to death though, but that's my favorite.

Mental Vortex because of the great and precise guitar work, the fat bass sound and the cool production. Some very scary riffing - perfect for listening to at night, walking home from work.

GRIN to me is on the TOP.
absolutely a MUST. Everything was just perfect. Brilliant songwriting, excellent production, great musicianship and a very mature concept.

Grin is definitely a good album, but I have mixed feelings about it. I'll explain why.
Rewind back to September 1993, my sophomore year of college. My friend Jeff and I were big Coroner fans and couldn't wait to hear the new album. We had recently introduced our friend and fellow shredder Mike to Coroner, and was starting to get into them. He was more into the "guitar gods" like Yngwie, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, etc. and hadn't heard much as far as some of the underground metal acts. Jeff gave him a mix tape with a few bands to get him started and included "Masked Jackal" on it. Good start!
Anyway, Mike had to go to a wedding back home in Poughkeepsie (near New York City for those that don't know) at the end of the month, so while there he picked up a copy of Grin on cassette (he didn't have a CD player yet). When he got back he said he listened to it and said "it's different" and wasn't sure if he liked it. I listened to the first couple songs and he was right. It WAS different. Still heavy, but...a little industrial music in the mix? There was that "cold" sound that was present throughout much of what I heard. I'm pretty sure it was a digital recording, which contributed to it, but in any event, I just couldn't get into it much at first.
When the Coroner self-titled CD came out, I hear I heard "Serpent Moves" for the first time since then. I liked it, and a few years later I found a used copy on CD and listened to the whole thing again. I was still a little perplexed by "Host", but started to enjoy the rest of the album more. Since then I'd say it's my third or fourth favorite album by then. I think the new material on the Coroner CD is better than just about anything on Grin, but that's just my opinion.

For me,it has to be "Mental Vortex".The intro on "Metamorphosis" makes my flesh crawl!! But I also ove the rest of their stuff("Read my scars","Internal conflicts","Masked jackal" are classics),it' just very hard to choose!! So,yep,"Mental vortex",followed closely by "Grin/NMC" and all the rest of it!!

Its tough to pick one that is my favorite, but I guess it would have to be 'Mental Vortex'. I don't think there is a bad moment on that album. The riffs are killer, awesome lyrics and probably THE best production on any Coroner album. The packaging was also the best of all of Coroner's albums as well. A close 2nd would have to be R.I.P., though the production isn't as pristine as 'Mental Vortex', the songs are great and indicitive of Coroner's signature complex writing approach.

Punishment for Decadence, as that is the album that got me into Coroner in the first place. Then Mental Vortex. Although I like everything I've heard by them anyway!

No More color is my favorite, the unique sound, the technique and innovation, the great lyrics and the new esthetics showed in this album is amazing. I have to say that Grin is my favorite too, in this album Coroner rise to the most high in Technical Composing and Performance of a Metal Album. This Band is just the Best Ever
