Hmmm, Tom Araya (Slayer) has always been a fave of mine, clarity & power without sounding cheesy.
John Tardy (Obituary) would be my fave Death Metal vocalist, closely followed by Barney Greenway (Napalm Death).
Fave vocalist ever would have to be Mike Patton though, the man is a human synthesizer, from extreme death growls to beatiful falsetto in the blink of an eye...

I'd have to say my favorite vocalists include James LaBrie, Ronnie James Dio, King Diamond, and Russell Allen of Symphony X. James LaBrie has quite the set of pipes, and is perfect for Dream Theater. Ronnie James Dio's vocals are very powerful, and aren't as whiny or high-pitched balls-in-a-vice like Judas Priest's Rob Halford. King Diamond is a lot like Halford, but his vocals are all over the place. Russell Allen is the same as Dio, but his voice can get even higher if it needs to. Incredible vocalists

My favorite singer would have to be King Diamond, but Rob Halford and David Wayne are a few favorites of mine as well.

ISOS is a good album, but a bad Onslaught album if that makes sense?

In no particular order... Ron Broder (Coroner) Tarja Turunnen (sp? ...from Nightwish and Tarja, her solo project) Mille Petrozza (Kreator) I wish he would do something like Endorama again...his singing sounded cool on that album. Joacim Cans (Hammerfall, Cans, Mrs. Hippie) James LaBrie (Dream Theater, Mullmuzzler) Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) Marco Hietala (Tarot, Nightwish) Christina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil) Simone Simons (Epica) Chuck Billy (Testament) Jeff Walker (Carcass) Chrigel (Eluveitie)

very difficult to pick out one vocalist under so many I like but my absolute favorite vocalist - although he is also a very talented Guitar Player and actually not a "Metal" vocalist because he is more influenced by 70's Progressive Rock and Hard Rock. Though he sang in a very influental Doom Metal band called Saint Vitus. Scott "Wino" Weinrich (Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, Spirit Caravan, Shrinebuilder etc.) For me he is a Legend. He has a unique voice who I feel comes really out of the Soul which is rare to find. Never met him in person unfortunately. To name some real Thrash/Death Metal vocalists: Chuck Schuldiner - Death Ron Royce (of course) - Coroner Tom "Warrior" Fischer - Celtic Frost Kenn Nardi - Anacrusis Kirk Windstein - Crowbar Ross Dolan - Immolation Snake - Voivod

totally forgot to mention Ville Laihiala. That guy is a talent very melodic vocals but it has this dark and melodic vibe too. Love his voive it has so much depth and expression can also totally refer to his lyrics. Just if you listen to "Amok" from Sentenced I think it's also pretty obvious that it was another band influenced by Coroner. Their later albums sound more like Paradise Lost but still a band that has a very unique sound.

Can't believe I never responded to your second to last post, as, even though I'm not real familiar with St. Vitus, I did note Wino's vocals on "Fear" of a video compilation I have People have said good things about them throughout the years.
