Who is your favorite metal singer and why?
I may surprise you by not voting for Ron Royce -- although I think he has the perfect voice for Coroner's music.
No, if I had to pick a favorite overall metal singer, I would choose Phil Anselmo. I think he has an incredibly beautiful mid-range voice -- very powerful and raw. I love the warm tone of his voice, the commitment with which he sings, and the underlying energy felt even in the calmer and more melodic parts.
Coroner still wins as far as vocal arrangements go though. I've always loved the unexpected way words were placed on top of Coroner's music.
What do you think?

It's really hard to name just one...
If we're talking thrash metal, I would say Chuck Billy (TESTAMENT). His voice is amazing, and has a really wide range.
Gus Chambers (GRIP INC.) has a cool voice as well.
I also really like the way Mille Petrozza (KREATOR) sings on their album Endorama.
If I had to pick one overall in metal/hard rock, that has to be Ricky Warwick (THE ALMIGHTY). He's got a really great voice.

I remember John once said that a fan came over to him after a show and said: "damn man, you sing like death" John answered: "Wait a sec, am i singing?" well yeah - John has his own style that's why i do like him too...

my personal favourite vocalist is Rok from early 90s death-thrash war machine Sadistik Exekution... he has the most raspy, evil sounding vocal style, and can pump words out faster than I can read them...
My favourite band members, and (why) I like em:
Vocalist - Rok (Sadistik Exekution & ROK) Guitarist 1 - Tommy Vetterli (Coroner) Guitarist 2 - Magnus Sahlgren (Dismember) Bassist - Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) Drummer - between Pete Sandoval (Morbid Angel) and Dave Lombardo (Slayer)
Imagine a band formed from those members...

I don't know some of the bands you mentionned, Trash Lord, but I have to agree with some of your choices! Hey, it's a funny game to try and put our favorite musicians into a single band! My ideal band would include the following: Guitar: Tommy Vetterli Bass: Steve Harris Drums: Dave Lombardo Vocals: Phil Anselmo And I wouldn't mind if Soilwork was writing the music! Now that would be something! ;D

I remember John once said that a fan came over to him after a show and said: "damn man, you sing like death" John answered: "Wait a sec, am i singing?" Yeah, there's a difference between being a singer and being a VOCALIST in metal! Which is why I'm splitting my favorites into groups: Favorite metal vocalist: Ron (Coroner) Scott (Brutality--great power death vocalist!) Karl (when he was in Bolt Thrower) Favorite metal singer: Messiah (Memento Mori and Candlemass, which, with that last one, imagine a more up-to-date doomy Black Sabbath, but with an opera singer!)

I agree, the vocalist for Grip, Inc is really good, I also really like Tom Araya's voice (Slayer). Alexi from Children of Bodom really intrigues me as well, not really his voice persay...but how he sings and plays fairly complicated riffs at the same time. That to me is pure skill. I'm also quite partial to Shagrath from Dimmu Borgir...if you listen to him in Dimmu, then listen to him in The Kovenant, he changes his vocal styles from one to band to another, and he's pretty good at both.

Favourite Metal vocalist....?? I'm hesitating, but yep,I think it would be Ron Royce or Blackie Lawless(W.A.S.P.)!!Followed closely by Mille Petrozza(Kreator) and Stephane Buriez(Loudblast).
My ideal band....Dunno but would certainly include Tommy Vetterli and Dave Mustaine/Marty Friedman. Bass....Ron Royce or Lemmy(I love his style). Drums....Marquis Marky or Mickey Dee(Motorhead),I also love Nick Menza's style,as well as Igor Cavalera's(Sepultura).Or Stet Howland!! Vocals....Ron or Blackie.... It would be soooooo difficult if we had to choose!!!!
But back to the main topic,I love Blackie's voice(even if it's helped with a bit of chorus),and Ron's voice on "Internal conflicts" or "serpent moves"....terrific!!

My vote is sort of not valid anymore.. ;D Since I discovered SOILWORK..oops, I believe that was Carole ..I must say that Speed is my favorite singer of them all. He wipes the floor with everyone. His voice is incredible, as he sings everything from nice melodic harmonies, to raw/brutal growl..and he does it GOOD (if not best)! by RiffGod

I think the most amazing singers ever were Messiah from early Candlemass (opera singer) to the guy who was on the last Sabbat cd (think his name was Desmond something), who could do the brutal growls, then sing about as high as King Diamond!

My vote for the best metal singer would have to be King Diamond or (going waaaaaay back, and some will fight as to whether he's even metal or not) Ronnie James Dio.
Maiden is my favorite band, but I'd have to say, as far as chops go, Ron Royce SMOKES Steve Harris.
