Hello to everyone. I am new, but want to use my first post already with starting a new topic about something that I have never seen/read so far. A decade ago, I got a 4-track tape during tapetrading stating: Coroner (SWI) - Live Demo #1 '83 Damned Fool/Hey Rock'n Roller/Hell Machine/??// I always thought this is fake because it features more Heavy/Rock music, but in some 2008 Celtic Frost/Hellhammer interviews with Tom or Martin, I saw two times now the remark "an earlier version of Coroner" or "earlier incarnation of Coroner". www.voicesfromthedarkside.de/interviews/hellhammer.htm" Hellhammer was a four piece in the end! We had at the last minute added a second guitarist named Vince Caretti aka Dei Infernal. Although we first wanted to bestow that title on Oliver Amberg who at that time played in an earlier incarnation of Coroner, but Oli did not really go for it. Luckily so, since Oli later joined Tom on "Cold Lake" where he performed not so well (at least to my ears!). By the way Vince did not really do that much good either, since he just failed to show up to rehearsals." Is this the same band Coroner ? Who was in that earlier band (as far as I read, it was at least Oliver Amberg) ? Did they release more stuff ? How is it viewed upon from the Coroner-members of today ? Cheers, Peter

Very interesting. From old interviews it was indicated that Marky started the band with other members, and Ron and Tommy got involved in a later (second?) incarnation. Your demo would seem to confirm this, if it is indeed authentic.
It would be very interesting to hear feedback from Marky about this. He would probably be horrified that it's out there but nonetheless...

Yeah, some of the "early days" stories of bands are pretty funny, like one to this day I still kind of wonder about in regards to an interview I read with Lars of Metallica:
Interviewer: Was there a person named Hugh Tanner that was ever involved in Metallica?
Lars (laughing): Oh my god! Where did you get THIS from?
I don't recall exactly what Tanner was claiming that he did with Metallica though; maybe it had something to do with the early success of the band?
Lars: Yeah, and I wrote "Smoke on the Water" and "Paranoid".
He opened up a little bit on him though...
Lars: He was--and I use this term real loosely--our "manager".
Then later, in regards to whatever Tanner did...
Lars: If he thinks that he had to do with ____ (whatever it is)...lets put it this way, I'd still sleep at night.
Or something like that.
As far as this early version of Coroner with Oliver though, no idea, that's a first to me.

If I recall correctly, Metal Archives mentions something about Oliver.
In addition, I interviewed Tom and Martin about a year ago...Coroner of course came up. They mentioned that at one time they would jam Celtic Frost songs, stuff like that.

If I recall correctly, Metal Archives mentions something about Oliver. That was me who wrote the comments in the "additional notes" like you see in my opening post. The name of Oliver in the ex-band member on Metal Archives list was written there some months ago.

Look, the only way to confirm if this demo is genuine is to ask Marky.
Carole...would you mind contacting Marky about this and other things that were left unconcluded?

Did anyone had the chance of talking to the Coroner guys about this ?

Hi peterott Thanks for your info.. interesting stuff indeed! This thread: ratqueen.proboards1.com/index.cgi?board=coroner&action=display&thread=282..was set up to send some questions off to Marky. I think you should make a question for Marky and add it to the thread. Things got put on hold for a while, but maybe this is just the thing to get it kick started again. ;D

Interviewed Marky about two weeks ago. He did indeed form a previous incarnation of the band as a five piece-- two guitars, standing vocals, bass and drums. Eventually he had to do military service, and when he got out the other members were busy. He had a new vision for the new band and was introduced to Tommy and Ron shortly after.
