So there it is... the dreaded news is out Marky emailed me back after meeting with Tommy and Ron recently. They unfortunately decided they would not record anything new, nor do any reunion shows after all. He will however send me some old and rare Coroner material that each of them still had buried at home -- I will likely have a contest of some sort on the Coroner web site to distribute some of this material back to the fans. Stay tuned about that (haven't received anything yet.) I wrote back to Marky to ask him why they had decided not to anything at all, despite the previously promising news, and also to ask what he and Ron were doing nowadays. Here's his reply, verbatim: "We all are very touched by the mail from all over the world with all those compliments. Wow. But still, we (the band) all agree that it does not make sense to record any new material. There is just no time to do it right. Ron is working in a company that installs locks and he's not doing any music at the time. I work for the museum of contemporary art in zurich, building room installations with artists from all over the word and also hosting a very big, private art collection. Musicwise I'm still doing a sick house project called Knallkids. My first record came out 6 months ago and it's called "Baked Boy Scouts" on Sleep Debt Records (google Knallkids for info)."I'm also preparing a new interview for Marky -- you can post your questions for him in the other thread pinned in the board.

Eh, for some *reason* I had a feeling I shouldn't look at these forums this afternoon But still, we (the band) all agree that it does not make sense to record any new material. There is just no time to do it right. Well, maybe there's hope for something EVENTUALLY then; I think Coroner's main problem was changing their sound with every single album, then thinking it wouldn't be good if they did two albums in a row with the same sound. There's NOTHING wrong with doing two albums with the same sound, just as long as the music's good! Because even Tom Warrior of Celtic Frost decided to eventually work on a new C. Frost album, going against what he said years before that the only way that he could do a new C. Frost was if they came out with an album that was better than anything C. Frost had ever done before; bullsh*t! Topping Morbid Tales or To Mega Therion? Yeah, good luck with THAT! ;D Ron is working in a company that installs locks and he's not doing any music at the time. I work for the museum of contemporary art in zurich, building room installations with artists from all over the word and also hosting a very big, private art collection. Well, sounds like they have different jobs... ;D My first record came out 6 months ago and it's called "Baked Boy Scouts" Baked Boy Scouts?! (unbaked Boy Scout)

I think Coroner's main problem was changing their sound with every single album, then thinking it wouldn't be good if they did two albums in a row with the same sound. I don't know... It's always been my impression they just enjoyed experimenting with different things, and I never thought anything they did actually sucked Maybe something to ask Marky about. But I agree, there's nothing wrong with sounding the same when it's great already (the No More Color / Mental Vortex era's always been my favorite.) Funny you should mention that. This was the PS in Marky's email: "ps: just hung out with Martin Ain a few days ago. Seems the upcoming new Frost album is gonna kick some ass..."

I still have hope. Maybe one day... If I will ever win the lottery, I will pay them a lot of money to create another album / reunite. I will be like a sponsor or something

Bummer.
I, for one, would simply just want to see more unreleased stuff put out. How awesome was getting my hands on every song on "The Unknown: Unrealeased Tracks 1985-95"? Really, really awesome, and I'd love to see bootlegs and live sets too.
Marky still chills with Martin Ain?? Oh wow. Good friends last forever!

Ok, they won't come back, it's understood.
Being a huge fan from the past, that sounds kind of sad to begin with, but then again, there's a time for everything.
Coroner had their era, they were definitely underrated, but in a way, they're still with us - just listen to the magnificent albums they released.
Also, IF they decided to reunite, do you really think it would be like in the late 80's/early 90's !? I'm afraid not...
I mean, they're exceptionally gifted musicians, and each of them have undoubtedly moved on musically during the past 10-15 years, and so have YOU!! (I know I have)
I don't think it could possibly be the same experience like back in the day, and it shouldn't be either. Everyone's getting older. Maybe the saying "let sleeping dogs lie" applies well to this.
Much respect to Tom, Marquis & Ron for the great music they made, and respect to them for their decision not to reheat anything but spaghetti sauce!!
The only thing I regret is that I never got to see them performing live....

Man, and after finally stumbling across this site, this is the first thread that got my attention...
bad news for those of us that truly understood Coroner. in a way, this could be looked at as good news. thier legendary status will stay just that....LEGENDARY. they ended on a spectacular note with Grin. one can only guess where they would have gone from there. Coroner is one of those bands that you just can't stop listening to.
HUGE fan guys/gals, maybe someday they will reconsider.

one can only guess where they would have gone from there. I think that, by listening to their self-titled final compilation cd, that they were mellowing a bit, but it's hard to say really, who knows. HUGE fan guys/gals, maybe someday they will reconsider. Man, and after finally stumbling across this site, this is the first thread that got my attention... (sigh) Yes, we all hope that, as Celtic Frost did that, after years of T. G. Warrior saying they wouldn't, one of the reasons was that he believed in order to come out with a new album, it'd have to be better than any of the Frost albums ever. And that not only really wouldn't be possible, and especially from some of the mixed reviews I heard about the "comeback" cd (from "it's awesome!" to "it sucks", since I don't have it yet myself), it sounds like that wasn't the case. So hopefully Coroner will eventually follow suit as well. And welcome to the site, hopefully you'll come across more positive threads to reply to
