I discovered Coroner when the "Masked Jackal" video debuted on the Headbanger's Ball back in '88. (Believe it or not, I still have the tape of that night's Ball, even after all these years!) The first thing I remember thinking is "Wow, what killer music....but that guy's voice is fuckin' horrible!" LOL. Yeah, that's funny, I didn't like Ron's voice at first either (since I wasn't much into the death/black metal scene much back then), after seeing parts of the "Jackal" video on a Hard 'n Heavy tape. But the music was killer, and I got R. I. P. a bit later, which, among getting several severe metal classics in a row of S. O. D.'s Speak English or Die, Slayer's South of Heaven, and Celtic Frost's Morbid Tales, I remember putting in my diary that I was listening to Coroner the least, since I didn't really like Ron's voice...which, I would eventually end up listening to Coroner the most out of all those ;D Sadly, I never had a chance to see them live. Luckily, I did, and luckily, the place they played was so small I just climbed on stage and got them to autograph their first cd (also luckily).

I used to live in Switzerland, so I was lucky to see them live several times, and even got Ron's autograph at a show during the "Grin" tour That's cool, where do you live now, if you don't mind me asking?

Don't know if this guy is still around, since he was a guest, but I'm a drummer too, so that's very cool!

Hey! It's so cool to discover that Coroner are still dearly loved out there!
I bought the self-titled debut when it was first released, and continued to buy all albums as they came out. I liked each album but mostly just listened to favourite tracks, the weird thing was that I didn't realise they were each TOTAL CLASS until I got hold of Mental Vortex! It woke me up to the quality & I revisited the first 3 albums with new eyes & ears! Man, can you imagine discovering all that talent hidden away in my own record collection?! Awesome!
I got some stuff from the DCL via Andy M Siegrist back in the eighties, I still have the T-shirts even though they are sadly worn out!
Hail to Coroner & all who still enjoy them!!
(not by any means late in discovering Coroner, I am sadly very late in discovering this thing called the internet!! Hail to Carole!!)
Other stuff: The Provenance are my fave current band! A bit like Coroner they seem to have all the talent but be wildly underrated...

(not by any means late in discovering Coroner, I am sadly very late in discovering this thing called the internet!!) No problem man, it's not like we're going to tell you to go bugger off or anything! ;D I first saw this site in 1998, when it was on www.deathmetal.com, then it disappeared, and I didn't re-discover it until only a month or so ago, so in order to make up for the absense, I sent in a bunch of stuff that's not on this site and annoyingly bumped up a bunch of two year old posts! ;D (Nah, it's because I help out whenever I can when someone is in need of stuff that I have...and for the second one, I'm just a real attention whore )

Cheers, man. ;D I'll be sure to return here, to check out what's going on. I'm currently digging around to see if I've still got any mags from the 80's that may have Coroner interviews that don't yet appear on the site. It's a long-shot, but worth a go! ...until I lose...

I might eventually have a shot of a Coroner No More Color poster I have, which is wonderfully dated by saying available on cd, vinyl or cassette ;D But it, along with a Mental Vortex sign that I ripped off of the wall of the club that I saw them perform at, might have been lost when I got news that the stuff in my storage unit was sold recently due to being behind in rent I'm not sure if my poster was in there or in my closet (I looked, but it's very small and crammed, so I'm not for sure on that one yet), but I know my Vortex sign was.

man, that's just not right! -People shouldn't mess with your metal, no matter what. I've managed to keep hold of most of my stuff (including my signed promo pic from the Grin era), but I've gotta admit I never saw 'em live. Dunno why not, I saw all the other bands that I wanted to. At least you went out & watched 'em play!

man, that's just not right! -People shouldn't mess with your metal, no matter what. Heh, but they did all that they could, as according to law (I assume) by calling and sending letters and all. Sucks though: out of having that stuff in there for YEARS, I miss saving it by four MONTHS Nice mentality of yours though I've managed to keep hold of most of my stuff (including my signed promo pic from the Grin era), Whoa, killer! Did you get that from their club or something? but I've gotta admit I never saw 'em live. Dunno why not, I saw all the other bands that I wanted to. At least you went out & watched 'em play! Oh, not just that: I got their autographs too, of their debut cd (I've been meaning to put up a post about that as well; maybe later tonight...)

Yeh, I got the signed photo from the Death Cult Lodge (nicely signed by all 3 in fetching gold ink), Andy M Siegrist looked after the DCL & he very kindly sent me a whole bunch of stuff - except what I actually asked for , which was the damn lyrics to the R.I.P. album. He wrote the words for Totentanz, so you'd have thought he could have managed at least that one! Ah, well. I've since seen the various efforts at translation on this very site & they're not bad! I've been looking at the tour dates posted by Ironfelix & sussed out why I never saw 'em live. I live in the UK & they didn't play here too often, and I guess I just somehow missed the dates (I'm a couple of hundred miles from London, too). I've checked out your other thread about seeing 'em live & chatting with Ron. Sounds Killer!! Gotta admit I envy you that one

He wrote the words for Totentanz, so you'd have thought he could have managed at least that one! Really? Did he write any other songs? And here all along I thought Marky wrote most of them, aside from "Spiral Dream" (T. G. Warrior), "Why it Hurts" (Martin Ain), and of course the covers of "Purple Haze" and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)". I've checked out your other thread about seeing 'em live & chatting with Ron. Sounds Killer!! Gotta admit I envy you that one Heh, yeah, that was a pretty good night, despite not too great sound, Agony Column being on for too long, and Coroner not long enough (a headlining band only playing 11 songs?!).

The intro piece of music to Totentanz was written by Robert de Visèe (1660-1720), but I'm just reading that from the sleeve-notes, it's not like I've got insider knowledge!! The only other cover version I can think of is "Der Mussolini", one of the few Coroner tunes I'm not so keen on. In one of your earlier comments you said you're a drummer... are you in a band at the moment? What sort of stuff do you play & who do you listen to? I've played guitar for years now, but haven't picked one up in the last 18 months! I think my ideas were always bigger than my abilities!!

The intro piece of music to Totentanz was written by Robert de Visèe (1660-1720) Oh that's right, I totally forgot about that...I always wondered how they came across that piece, it's not every day you hear of a band that does a piece by someone who died a couple hundred years before! ;D The only other cover version I can think of is "Der Mussolini" Really? I didn't even know that was a cover (THOUGHT it didn't really sound like them!), who did the original? In one of your earlier comments you said you're a drummer... are you in a band at the moment? No, most of my set is gone now, plus I'll too ill (thyroid problems) to play anyway. What sort of stuff do you play & who do you listen to? Nothing current; when I don't work, I don't buy cds. I like stuff by Brutality, Bolt Thrower, Hypocrisy, and on the flip side of metal, the symphonic Bal-Sagoth and the folk metal of Skyclad, even! I've played guitar for years now, but haven't picked one up in the last 18 months! I think my ideas were always bigger than my abilities!! Heh, I know what you mean, and I hadn't been able to play for years either, due to having to move back in with my parents and all (and when I lived on my own, the last place I lived had way too thin walls to play, not even with the pads that dull the sound to a mild roar helped enough for the neighbors )

Really? I didn't even know that was a cover (THOUGHT it didn't really sound like them!), who did the original? The original was by a German band (I think they are Punk) called Daf. I've never heard the original, I think I'll get by without it! ;D No, most of my set is gone now, plus I'll too ill (thyroid problems) to play anyway. That's a downer, man Stuff like that can drag on & bring ya down, but you've got the right metal attitude!! That makes you a far healthier human being than most suckers out there. I like stuff by Brutality, Bolt Thrower, Hypocrisy, and on the flip side of metal, the symphonic Bal-Sagoth and the folk metal of Skyclad, even! You like symphonic? Have you ever checked out Therion? Mad full choir/orchestra mixed in with the odd hint of Death metal ('Theli' & 'Lemuria/SiriusB' are essential!) ...He he! nothing wrong with a bit of Skyclad! I confess I own most of their back catalogue, and very entertaining it is too. Now Martin Walkyier is a quality lyricist...

The original was by a German band (I think they are Punk) called Daf. I've never heard the original, I think I'll get by without it! ;D Yeah, ditto Not really much into punk... That's a downer, man Yeah, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome-type symptoms really suck. I should be a good 80% cured within the next six weeks though (got some legal crap to do in regards to it, like get the mold removed from this house, which is REALLY what's dragging me down...need to have five surgeries to cure it, had three done, still feel pretty bad...unless I'm out of the house for a while...duh). Stuff like that can drag on & bring ya down, but you've got the right metal attitude!! Damn straight: "metal until I die!" Funny, I started listening to metal in high school (1984), and here, 20 years later, the stuff just keeps on getting heavier (started out, like most of us do, with the commercial stuff, then went onto death/black metal and grindcore)! And just because morons don't understand it doesn't mean "oh, you'll get tired of it"; feh! Not only am I STILL listening to it, idiots like that usually have quit listening to music *altogether*...bite me! That makes you a far healthier human being than most suckers out there. Yeah, I'm pretty open-minded...once you get a chance to check out more of the site, in the general discussions, or off-topic, or whatever Carole named it, I've got a "Ever freak someone out with your music collection?" thread, in regards to non-metal stuff that I have that I think you'd be surprised at ('Course, maybe you meant something totally different when you said that anyway ) Yep, and part 1 of the above post is in the Other metal bands forum... ;D Have you ever checked out Therion? Mad full choir/orchestra mixed in with the odd hint of Death metal ('Theli' & 'Lemuria/SiriusB' are essential!) Bit ahead of ya there, I listed them in that post ;D Only one I've got so far out of their huge catalog is Vovin. Next one I get (eventually) will be going way back in time, to when they started combining metal with opera, when they sounded REAL evil, as the stuff was heavier...can't think of the name of it, it's the one with the demon on the cover... ...He he! nothing wrong with a bit of Skyclad! I confess I own most of their back catalogue, and very entertaining it is too. Now Martin Walkyier is a quality lyricist... That's another band I mentioned in that thread ;D He's an AWESOME songwriter...he's even better than *I* am! Bit surprised when he left, although I guess it was due to the Sabbat reunion or something? Be interesting to hear what the new one does and where they'll be going from there.
