Wow. It's great to see a board related to these guys. Great work Carole on helping to keep the fans of Coroner in touch here. ;D Since I'm new here, let me introduce myself. My name is Patrick and I'm a native of Wichita, KS. I've been playing guitar off and on for about twelve years, but never really found that many people around here to jam with who had the same musical interests. I'm finishing up my degree in Business, and I work full time as a bookkeeper, so I don't get much time to jam anymore That will change next year ;D It always amazed me that Coroner were relatively unknown to US metal fans throughout their career. I remember getting into them and VoiVod about the same time, and I missed both of them when they came through Kansas (sucks bad). I've always seemed to have had eclectic metal tastes, and for a trio, these guys blew me away. I'm still trying to add to my cd collection of all of my old favorites, and these guys are around the top. Anyways, right now, my favorite bands are: Dream Theater Angra Shadow Gallery Coroner VoiVod Rush Yngwie Malmsteen Hope to have some questions for Tommy (if he gets back in touch with you) a little later ... A question for any and all, How did you get into Coroner, and what other bands (musicians) do you listen to? Happy Holidays everyone ... Patrick

Welcome, KSDreamer. I've been kind of a stranger around here myself in recent months, but it's good to see the Coroner site's alive and well! I discovered Coroner when the "Masked Jackal" video debuted on the Headbanger's Ball back in '88. (Believe it or not, I still have the tape of that night's Ball, even after all these years!) The first thing I remember thinking is "Wow, what killer music....but that guy's voice is fuckin' horrible!" LOL. Needless to say, Ron's pipes grew on me after a while, and I still consider Coroner to be the finest European metal band of the Eighties. I was honored when Carole asked me to write the album summaries for her site, 'cos it makes me feel like I can give a little something back to the Coroner guys for all the excellent music they released. Sadly, I never had a chance to see them live. To the second half of your question, I'm afraid I don't listen to a lot of metal these days. It isn't that I don't enjoy good hard music, it's just that metal (like all musical genres) seems to cycle into these ruts when all the bands begin to sound like copies of each other. It happened in the late Eighties, and it's happened again in recent years. I still love many of my old CDs, but I've broadened my horizons a lot since my teens. BUT here are some excellent discs I have picked up in the last year or so, and listen to a lot: Iron Maiden's "Rock in Rio" DVD W.A.S.P. "Dying for the World" Demons & Wizards' self-titled album Blind Guardian "A Night at the Opera" Prong "100% Live" (Great to see these guys back in action!) Plasmatics "New Hope for the Wretched" (Old but great!)

Hi Patrick, and welcome here! I got into Coroner in 1989. Back then, I was mostly into more mellow metal/hard rock (Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Ozzy, Yngwie...) and the heaviest stuff I used to listen to probably was Metallica (how far the "Master of Puppets" era seems to be now...) Anyway, I was in a record store, sniffing around for some new band I could get into. I asked the store clerk if he had any recommendations and he handed me Coroner's "No More Color" album, which had just come out, saying it was really excellent and original. I listened to it and, even though I never thought I would enjoy such rough metal at the time (especially with vocals like Ron's), I immediately loved Coroner's music, which I found intricate, heavy as hell and yet melodic. The next week, I went back to the store and bought Coroner's first two albums. I used to live in Switzerland, so I was lucky to see them live several times, and even got Ron's autograph at a show during the "Grin" tour These days, and besides Coroner, I mostly listen to Grip Inc., old Machine Head, Pantera, and Soil Work (which I have recently discovered.) I'm kind of limited in my musical tastes, I guess... I only like metal, and it has to be rough and heavy, intricate, melodic (but not wimpy), with guitar solos (so many bands seem to have forgotten about guitar solos nowadays!), have powerful and committed vocals, and a minimum (or, preferably, no) keyboards. No, I'm not picky at all.

I was honored when Carole asked me to write the album summaries for her site, 'cos it makes me feel like I can give a little something back to the Coroner guys for all the excellent music they released. Hey Geezo! I was the lucky one when you accepted to write those album reviews! They certainly sum up each Coroner album better than I've ever read in any professional magazine!

Hi Patrick I got into Coroner...out of curiosity. I was rummaging around the bins in a used CD shop when I found Coroner's self-titled CD. This is gonna sound silly but.... My fav color is blue. The cover of the CD is shades of blue and it also looks cool. ...and I had never heard of them, so I checked them out. ...told ya it was gonna sound silly didn't I? Anyways I loved the CD although it did frighten me a little (the heaviness and Ron's vocals). At that time I had just gotten into metal and was only into prog metal (Dream Theater, Savatage, etc) and never heard any band so heavy. I listen to almost anything, except for country and rap. My favorite bands: Dream Theater Savatage Extol Coroner Kreator Nightwish Stratovarius HammerFall Lacuna Coil The Gathering Fates Warning Carcass (Newer only) Iced Earth Opeth
Happy New Year! GlassMoon6

I got into Coroner in 88 the same as "Geezo", "Masked Jackal" video was such a breath of fresh air you knew it was something special, I've never seen such awsome musicians before or since, the speed and tightness is incredible, the only bassist to come near Ron for skill and speed was the guy out of Sadus, Steve Di Giorgio, I belive... Im a bass player of around 18 years and I aint near Ron.. .. A big thx to Carole, for setting this up, and does the domain have anything to do with COroner I wonder...designvortex.com...metalvortex... Hey a few of the oldies but besties Voi Vod (Are now gonna rock with Jason Newstead in the ranks and the original line up YES...!!!!) Sanctuary Atheist (RIP god bass dude Roger Patterson ) Death (WOW...!!!) RIP CHUCK.... OBITUARY DARK ANGEL DEATH ANGEL Bathory Sadus Sepultura Hell to many...

Yeah, I got into Coroner in '88 when I saw the aforementioned 'Masked Jackal' video on Headbanger's Ball on the once watchable but ill-fated MTV. It stood out amongst all the other videos that were on that night, and I remember watching each week diligently in hopes of catching it again and recording it.
"Punishment for Decadence" was the first album I got, and is still my favorite, although not as well produced as Mental Vortex and the last two. It should be noted though, that comparing Punishment and RIP to the newer albums is like apples and oranges, because they matured so immensely between the first and last albums.
Anyway, Coroner was a refreshing break from all the mainstream metal that was flowing out in the late eighties. It makes me wonder how popular they would have been WITHOUT the Masked Jackal video?? Noise certainly never promoted them, at least not here in the US.

Hello. This is my first visit to this site and I have to say "well done". My name is Larry and I live in Austin, Tx. I first got into Coroner around 89' with "No More Color", and sadly enough I haven't heard it since then. I've managed to gather all the other albums with the exception of "NMC". Luckily, I ran across it last week and it just blew my mind. It was a million times better than I had remembered. It's too bad those guys never got the recognition they truly deserve. They remain one of my favorite and influencial bands. I also play drums in metal band- ACERBUS. Please check it out. www.blackdimension.com/acerbus/Thanks to all for keeping Coroner alive!

Hi Patrick/everyone, I first heard Coroner in 1990 at a drunken metal party held in Kirkaldy, Scotland(also the first I heard Mind Over Four's "The Goddess"). Well, those were hugely exciting times with technical thrash at it's peak, I have some great memories of those days. Anyway, I bought No More Color and was hooked. Absolutely taken aback by the majesty of Mental Vortex, a true classic. Grin, again brilliant and musicianship as only Coroner can produce. Finally, I remember scouring the record shops in 1996 and coming across "Coroner". By then it was all over. Still one of my most played CDs. Other bands I rate so highly, Without Warning - "Step Beyond" Cynic - "Focus" Diabolos In Musika - "Natural Needs" Carcass - "Necrotism...Descanting..." Watchtower - "Control..." Atheist - "Unquestionable Presence" Sieges Even - "Steps". Death - "Symbolic" Anyway, still much good music out there. Carole, thanks for keeping Coroner alive.

Hi!
I really love Coroner and it's somehow strange that coroner's members stayed quite through all this time , musically speacking but also it's very hard to hear them talk....i can't understand! They're one of the greatest heavy metal bands on earth , why they split up and put their asses down!!??!! I WANT THEM BACK!!
HAIL TRUE METAL
