What's up with Appolyon Sun?

I havent heard any news from them for like 2 years. Are they on hiatus or did they officially break up? Forgive me if I'm missing something.

P.s I know Marky doesnt play with them anymore.

According to it's entry on www.bnrmetal.com, the band's on hiatus (as of March, 2004) as Tom Warrior is trying to put together a Hellhammer/Celtic Frost anthology, along with possibly a new Celtic Frost cd (but that's been said since the year 2000 or so anyway, so who knows there ).

Hiatus, but active.

Tom is working on the CF album, which has been confirmed by an invited fan. This is with Martin Ain, Erol Unala, and a new guy for drums. There is also a rehearsal clip of "Ground". This is an extremely raw jam, recorded at a rehearsal session.

Don't forget, they're no longer in recording and have businesses and jobs, so that makes things take time. They have been working hard, so no doubt, it will be out.

The anthology was shelved because the creative direction could not be agreed upon by the band and the record company. Any release that could pop up is completely unauthorized and Tom has told the record company that he will tell the fans to not buy it because it's another effort by the record company to defraud the fans again.

Tom also has a solo project in the works, going alongside the CF project.

Damn, sounds like Tom is a mega busy guy!

Any idea what the "direction"s of the Celtic Frost compilation were supposed to be? Sounds weird, since C. Frost changed their sound so much anyway.

Well, the anthology is most likely not going to happen, as I previously mentioned. It was also supposed to be a double with the works of Hellhammer included, to bring HH to a final and definitive conclusion. Personally, I would not buy a CF work that is not authorized due to the well detailed struggles of the band. Tom has even mentioned that he will go out of his way to tell the fans not to buy another unauthorized work, despite the financial gains he can make from them.

As far as the new album goes, that's a very tough question to answer. Only one of us in the close fan circle knows for sure, since he was personally invited to watch them jam. There is a secretive aspect to it.

What we do know:
-They are raw, emotional, brutal, and heavy.
-Celtic Frost is about change and pushing the boundaries in a new direction every time they go out. This album will certainly be the case.
-It will be experimental. Expect shades of Apollyon Sun, due to the influence of Erol Unala, as well as the results of writing style changes over the years.
-Expect "Winter", the follow up to Requiem (Rex Irae) to be on it.
-Martin may sing on one song. Maybe not.
-Artwork has been selected. It's most likely something artsy and integral to the theme, a la ITP and TMT.
-One cover. Again, it's uncertain what it will be.

Getting back to the authorized works, the only authorzied works are:
1998/9 Remasters of Morbid Tales, To Mega Therion, Into the Pandemonium, Vanity/Nemesis.
The reprint (but unchanged) ...Parched with Thirst... from 1999.

Hellhammer's Apocalyptic Raids AD from around the same time.

Apollyon Sun's albums.

The autobiography, "Are You Morbid?"

No other works or merchandise are authorized. There is no reissue for Cold Lake, as it's not a true Celtic Frost work. It's Celtic Frost only in name.
