I must say I'm very shocked over this, of a distraught fan yelling at Dimebag at last night's show that he was the reason that Pantera broke up, and then he gunned Dimebag down, along with several other people. I'm really surprised the whole incident has gotten this much nationwide attention, here in the U. S. I didn't really know much about Pantera (even though I DO live in Texas, where they originated from), but they must have been pretty decent guys to have Dimebag and his brother (on drums) playing in Pantera, then kept on going together in their new band. And some sick person takes THAT away?

Some shocking news to wake up to, for sure... and a terrible loss for metal. I'm a big Pantera fan, and Dimebag will be missed greatly, even though the band was split. He was really an icon in the metal world, with his very own style and sound To think it happened in the city where I live, in the very club where I've seen several bands play in the recent past... I was lucky I didn't know Damageplan was playing there that night, or I might have been there myself At least the damn lunanic who's responsible was shot dead!

Yeah this is fuckin' insane. The date ( 8 Dec) also coincides with the date of John Lennons murder. Its just unreal. Ive never been a big Pantera fan, but now Im gonna get more of their stuff cause Dime was still one hell of a guitarist ( Im a guitarist too, though Im far from where Id want to be). RIP. We'll all miss you.

Wow, Carole posted! Too bad it had to have been in regards to something like this... To think it happened in the city where I live, in the very club where I've seen several bands play in the recent past... I was lucky I didn't know Damageplan was playing there that night, or I might have been there myself Damn, that's pretty scary! At least the damn lunanic who's responsible was shot dead! No kidding...and if anyone hears if he left behind a suicide note or hears from one of his friends that heard him say he was planning on doing this or anything, post it here, ok? I don't have a tv, but this received so much attention, even *I* heard about it ('course I saw it on Yahoo first)...

From what I've read in several reports, the stupid f*ck was lurking around the parking area and trying to talk to the Abbott brothers just before the show, but was shooed away. Several fans reported him shouting "You broke up Pantera!" before he grabbed and shot Dimebag in the head. It was said, from people who knew him, that he was a big Pantera fan... some damn fan!! This was not just random craziness... he really targetted them!

Listen to what you just said: "USED" to be. They IMPROVED! I mean, with Phil's amazing screaming (yet at times he could sing, too, like with "Cemetary's Gates") and growling and all, they weren't exactly a poser band on their last four albums (I think it was...four albums as a "commerical" band, then the last four were way heavier).
By the way, if you check out this thread here,

if you scroll all the way down, at first it seems like it's only one guy with the DD avatar...but actually it's several ;D Nice tribute (especially since it's on a video game web site).

I'm amazed some people still think of Pantera as a poser band!! I mean, that was eons ago! They were heavy as hell ever since Phil joined the band and, to me, that's what Pantera was. I've always loved Phil's vocals (in Pantera and Down,) but I must say I hate what he's doing with Superjoint Ritual. I've seen SR play here in Columbus and there seemed to be no structure whatsoever to their songs, it all sounded the same to me, and the vocals were sub-par to say the least, especially considering what Phil is capable of (used to be one of my favorite metal vocalists... *sigh*)

Yeah, but this was a while ago that I'm talking about...when they suddenly changed for the better (and heavier ), in the 90s. What the hell, people are stupid. I've always loved Phil's vocals Same here, he was badass! but I must say I hate what he's doing with Superjoint Ritual. Hadn't heard anything from them; maybe I'm better off?

I was and still am extremely pissed about the whole Dimebag Darrel situation. Its wrong to just shoot somebody, period, dont get me wrong on that...but while the man is up on stage? thats his job, thats how he gets paid, and he was DAMN good at it. I also agree, I am very glad that the crazed lunatic who killed Dime, injured Vinnie, and killed those fans was shot dead on the scene. Truly the proper punishment for someone who takes one our living legends in such an untimely manner. Dimebag will never truly die!
I imagine that Kerry King (Slayer) is pretty pissed about all this as well, I was reading a question and answer thing between Slayer members and their fans...and Kerry stated that if something happened to Slayer, he'd would want to start up another band with his "brother" Dime. I take it those two were pretty close.

Even though this happened awhile ago, I always thought this was a damn shame, and something that shouldnt of happened, regardless of the fact I never really liked Pantera or thought Diamond was an amazing guitar player.

Well, that's cool though. Yeah, the whole situation was b. s. If it was some kind of 'vigilante justice' or something (i. e. like if a civilian had killed Saddam Hussein), that I wouldn't have a problem with. But this was totally pointless.
Anyone know if the gunman turned out to be mentally ill or something?
