Well, well... I think I've finally found a band I like! Does anyone know of a band named Soilwork? (yeah, I'm probably the only one not knowing about them...) Just got a copy of their latest (2002) album entitled "Natural Born Chaos" and it is excellent! Very intricate, original metal, heavy and melodic, with lots of tempo changes and off-beat rhythms, vocals which at times sound very close to Ron's (although much more varied,) AND guitar solos (with a guitar sound that reminds me of Tommy's)! Now what else can you ask for? I've read that this latest Soilwork album is actually very different from their older albums, which were more speed metalish. Anyway, the new direction they're taking is very much to the taste of this Coroner fan!

Yes, they're great! Also, if you haven't heard the band 'In Flames', check them out for sure. Start off with their 'Clayman' CD...

I've heard a few songs from In Flames and like them. Can't remember which ones or from what album though.
Can't wait for the next Soil Work album! Hope it's in the vein of "Natural Born Chaos"!

I'll have to check them out... There is "life after Grip Inc." after all! Yes, Kalle, you have to! I'm pretty sure you're going to like them a lot. Make sure to get the "Natural Born Kaos" album! (I've listened to another of their albums since then and it was not the same at all -- much faster and less melodic. I didn't like it much.) Not to say that the latest album isn't fast and heavy, because it is. Their songs are pretty long, with a lot of changes and melodies that tend to stick easily in my head (like Grip Inc.'s) Definitely the best band I've listened to since you introduced me to Grip! Now I just hope they won't break up next year!

01. Downfall 24 02. Brickwalker 03. Cranking the Sirens 04. Departure Plan 05. Overload 06. Rejection Role
The band will also have the song "Natural Born Chaos" included on the upcoming PlayStation 2 and XBOX Jet Ski racing game, Splashdown 2, due from THQ in June.

I knew it I knew it! ;D How could any metal fan with a sane brain and ears not love Soilwork anyway? Can't wait to listen to their upcoming album! Thanks for the info about the release date! At least now I know I'll have to wait a while before I start foaming at the mouth.

Finally I've seen 'em live!! Carole, you are so right about the vocalist..he is really as good as on the albums!! It is awesome the way he can vary his voice, and he was very good handling the crowd also..great stage-presence! To me & my buddies joy, they played lots of songs off NBC. Also, watching & hearing guitarist Wichers is just like if it had been Tommy Vetterli..their playing-style as well as the sound is VERY much alike..indeed real nice solos & licks!! My favorite lick I saw him play was during Bastard Chain - ultra cool! I will definitely see them again, no Q about it. ;D /Kalle

*shamefully replying to this thread 6 months later... * Aren't they great, Kalle?! ;D I was so amazed when I saw them live! Such complex music played just as on the albums! I was glad too that they played so many songs from NBC! I drove 2 and a half hours to go see them and, since they were one of the two opening bands, they only played about 45 minutes, but that was well worth the trip! Can't wait to see them again!
