At work a few weeks ago. Eastern Grey Kangaroo on the outskirts of Lithgow. Lithgow??!! I saw glow worms there,a fair few years ago....!! I live in the Blue Mountains to the east of Lithgow. Lots of glow worm caves around here.

Holy sh*t, those things are huge!
Are they closely related to the Komodo Dragons, or are those totally different?

They are both in the genus Varanus, so yeah pretty close. This was a pretty big fella, about 1.8 metres. At Mulgoa Creek, in the foothills of the mountains. They are usually timid solitary creatures, I guess from being hunted by aborigines, but they can be a nuisance when they form scavenging gangs at campsites. Recently discovered to be venomous like their Komodo brothers. I think the worst thing that can happen is they get spooked and make you out to be a tree to climb. That would get ugly very quickly.

^Sounds it! Couple of pics from a real heavy fog we had last month, which they didn't even do it justice, as fog can be hard to capture. ClickyClicky 2(I don't know why Picload won't allow direct links any more.)

Bit of a half and half thing here: half nature, half city when I took this the other week. (The original pic is clearer, by the way.)
