Wow!
Finally got to see the guys in their only UK appearance this year - and they were fuckin awesome!! ;D
As it was a festival they only got 45 minutes, and so could only play 8 songs:
- Masked Jackal
- Internal Conflicts
- Metamorphosis (complete with added eastern flavours through an extended mid section)
- D.O.A
- No Need To Be Human
- Semtex Revolution
- Divine Step (Conspectu Mortis)
- Grin
I'm not sure the order is accurate, I was going too mental to take proper note!
Got to meet Ron, Tommy & Marky in the signing tent after their slot - they kindly signed a poster for me. It was great to get to thank them each in person for the incredible entertainment they've given me (all of us) over the years.
I told Ron that he is an awesome bassist, but that I especially love his vocals - they suit the dark edge of Coroner so well. He says he doesn't hear that very often! I think his vox are perfect for Coroner, nothing else could ever fit so well. I asked him to consider doing new material with the guys...
I thanked Tommy for his exceptional music, told him how ahead of his time this band were, he kindly gave me a guitar pick and then I asked him to consider doing new material with the guys... he said "it's him you need to ask " and pointed at Marky...
So I then had a brief chat with Marky, told him that his drumming is superb of course, and that his lyrics are absolutely second to none IMO. I told him I was aware of his other interests musically, he said how it's good to have those other interests and influences... and then I asked him to consider doing new material with the guys...
hehe, I didn't expect any of them to say 'yes' to me, but at least if we keep asking they know there's demand. Personally, I don't care what influences or sound they bring, I'd just love 'em to do their own thing and write together again... whatever they want, for their entertainment.
Anyway, they were great - relaxed, signing, chatting and posing for photos with everyone - real good guys, glad to have met 'em and said 'thanks'.
Also got a couple of t-shirts, the one with the small logo on front and the band pic on the back, and the one with the logo on front and 'Reborn Through Hate' skull on the back.
Concert was perfect - the first half of Masked Jackal felt like a bit of a warm up, but then they just hit their stride and delivered the goods. Grin was particularly fantastic, simply because I never knew it could sound so good! Such a short set that each and every one was a favourite. Metamorphosis was cool with its slight extension through the middle, great to hear D.O.A., Divine Step and Internal Conflicts... hell, it was just great to hear 'em all.
Can die happy now. Will still hope for more concert opportunities and new material!! Seems like Marky's the one to convince... I hope he can find enjoyment in doing it
P.S. Missed Forbidden and Triptykon because of work commitments, but did get to see Kreator, Devin Townsend and W.A.S.P. Left halfway through Hevy Devy though to go see Lawnmower Deth on the second stage instead - best move I made, they were unbelievably good!
P.P.S. Sorry for such a damn long post!
** edit: Got over excited and put Why It Hurts instead of No Need To Be Human in the set list. Corrected now.
