What's everybody's take on the not so new trend of alternating vocal styles, like Burton Bell from Fear Factory or Mike from Opeth, roaring like an enraged beast, then clean singing (near crooning, some would argue) at the drop of a hat. I think Burton does it well, as does the dude from Shadows Fall, but there just seem to be everybody and their frigging brothers and sisters doing it now a days. I'm all for dynamics in all parts of a song, but when guitars are chugging and drums are pummeling and bass is rumbling along, it just seems out of place for near lilting vocals over such aggressive stuff. Thoughts, and or opinions?

It depends on the song that's involved, as this is a bit too general of me to address as to whether I like it or not. Since I listen from nearly anything from new age to death metal, I can accept all kinds of things, like Fear Factory (I've got their debut) and such.
