Since Coroner is coming back....I thought I would start a thread of bands that are in the Coroner style.......
we should all support each other as when Coroner hits the world again we will be right behind them.......
here is my list:
Spectors Of Sin:www.myspace.com/spectorsofsin
Cynic: www.myspace.com/cyniconline
Syndrome: from chicagoSo far that is all I know of.......BUT I AM SURE THERE IS WAY MORE............
So everyone gather up what they know and start a movement to push the bands up......And support this underground style of Tech thrash metal[/b] [/color]

Would hardly say Cynic ae that similar to Coroner... maybe a little I guess.
Coroner are very unique but overall I'd say they generally fall under the tech-thrash banner. Go for bands like Watchtower, Toxik, Vektor, Voivod, Mutant (UK) and so on.

Yes I almost forgot Watch Tower(Ron Jarzombek.... Ron J.....was also a big guitar influence on my playing.... Oh yeah, saw Watchtower at Keep It True in april. The best show for sure. There are no similar bands to Coroner or vice versa but if you mean bands that tried to move forward and pursue their musical abilities, there are a few great among them: Watchtower, Cynic, Atheist, Nocturnus, Death, Pestilence, Helstar, Riot, Paradox, Mekong Delta, Artillery, Heathen, Toxik, Sieges Even, Psychotic Waltz. All these were not your average metal bands, at least imo. They were not afraid to nuke the boundaries that stuck them in specific (sub)-genres.

Welcome Norbert.
Your list of bands begs me to ask a question:
How does Coroner rate for you amongst the names on that list?

Welcome Norbert. Your list of bands begs me to ask a question: How does Coroner rate for you amongst the names on that list? Thank you, rehabitat. Music is no competition, so I´d say that every band offers its own qualities. Sure, Coroner might be better than Pestilence or even Death (being a big name doesn´t mean anything) but being authentic and innovative is what I appreciate, so in this matter, Coroner were definitely a band of their own kind. They were able to combine virtuosity with composing. I must admit that I was dissapointed by Grin since they made a step backward as musicians but I suppose taste comes first.

I'm a metalhead since 86 and believe me I've never listen any similar band like CORONER! They're unique!

I would like to turn you all on to Obscura. They're a four piece, hyper melodic, yet brutal death metal band from Germany, almost a 'super group,' but only if you know your obscure (no pun intended) bands. Featuring the impeccable drumming of Hannes Grossmann and the fretboard wizardry of Christian Muenzner (both from Necrophagist), the 6 string fretless bass acrobatics of Jereon Paul Thesseling (formerly in Pestilence) and Steffen Kummerer (Thulcandra) on lead vocals and co lead guitar, Obscura is simply melodic death metal perfection. Sonically it's a combination of late era Carcass, Opeth, Sadus and early 90's Death all smashed together and creating a swirling maelstrom of beautifully rendered death metal. 2009's 'Cosmogenesis' is nearly an hour, yet never boring, and a new record is planned for an early 2011 release. Their 2006 release, 'Retribution,' aside from Steffen K, featured an entirely different line up and while great, was not as phenomonal. Plus their name comes from Gorguts' most technical, beautiful release. You all owe it to your ears to check 'em out.

I would like to turn you all on to Obscura... I saw Pestilence with Jereon Paul Thesseling last summer. He was playing a 6 string fretless, and it was truely amazing to see him live. On the other hand, I must admit I've never heard any bands that sound similar to Coroner (songwriting-wise) Also, there's no doubt that bands like Cynic, Obscura, etc... are very good, regardless of how differently they make music.

Another really good Ron Jarzombek project is Blotted Science, crazy instrumental tech/death stuff. Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse on bass and Charlie from Behold... The Arctopus on drums. And speaking of Behold... The Arctopus, they're another crazy tech band, very different to Coroner though. Here they are covering Read My Scars (really fucking well) in a rehearsal room:

Yeah I can't really say they sound like anyone or anyone has been able to mimic their sound. Coroner is Coroner and they stand alone!!!!!!
