When I was younger I always felt that I have to pick one band and be a "true" fan. That faded away with time so I`m not thinking anymore in those terms. In the past 20 years I`ve listened to a lot of metal of various types. Even so, if I`d be faced with a straight yes or no question, Coroner would be the answer. Even if at a certain moment I listened more to Slayer, Sepultura, Overkill, Voivod, Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost, My Dying Bride, Emperor, Summoning, Drudkh, Temnozor, Sopor Aeturnus or Peste Noire there was always a bit of Coroner playing, at least in my head. I think they are closer to my Weltanschauung, so to speak, than any band, philosopher, friend, movie, book, cartoon, artist, etc. Maybe except Emperor.
That being said, I`m surprised that my anachronic/necrotic metal tastes are somewhat shared in an forum and hello to everyone, my first post here.

to be honest Iam really dumb. Because of the reason I haven't checked them out earlier and really 'tried' em. I remember a guy from a forum once posted a video and told me. That's Coroner, you should like them or something like that but I didn't even bother to listen to listen to them in full or something. Now after a great research Coroner turned instantly to one of my absolute favorite bands, absolutely unique, mindblowing and one of the best Thrash-metal bands ever existing. Fuckin yeah it's one of my absolute favorites besides: Judas Priest Black Sabbath Kreator Overkill Death
I can't really define my favorite band at the time. I don't know it anymore..

well, I travelled from Canada to Switzerland for the express purpose of seeing them play live this summer.
Twice.
So I guess they must rank, eh?

Dude, we should hang out sometime. However, I'm sure you can't be from Toronto, cause TO is all about either Justin bieber or glam metal.....yeah pretty disappointing. Will you be there for the XMass party on Dec 30th?

"Is Coroner your Favourite Band?" Of course.
Plus, In my opinion they are one of the most successful "come back" acts, along with Atheist.

Coroner's class never seems to fade.
I first answered this topic in 2005, half the bands I listed then have faded somewhat from my list of faves, whereas Coroner remain as strong as ever in my top bands.
I still love Sabbath, Deathrow, Laibach and Testament. I'd add Spiritus Mortis too. I'm still fond of many of the others I listed back then, but Coroner are on a different level, one of those very few special bands that I know will always remain right up there with the very best of the best (possibly only Sabbath are on a par in that respect for me).

Especially since Deathrow only came out with four albums. They did some killer stuff though!

Probably ... have been waiting and hoping and waiting and hoping since they called it quits. being able to see them back in action is something I never would have believed. As someone posted before Grin was nearly perfect if anything could be an absolute... an albulm I just spin and spin and spin some more. Just eats at you and crawls under your skin.. simply amazing. I have also lingered in search of Deathrow news.. another oldie that I can't let go of. Pretty sure we won't get a revival from them as we did from Coroner. Even live material is mysteriously unavailable on youtube.. one nasty video I have found in all this time. Fates Warning is another band that I follow.. ever since the 1st release.. Just love that band and with the Arch / Matheos I am just blown away. Not a favorite band but Faith No More's Angel Dust is another nearly perfect record. Was not a fan of the earlier whiny vocals of Patton but when he found his adult (deeper) voice he is pretty much unrivaled as an artist. Other groups I follow are mostly the brutal freight train style bands like Meshuggah, Fear Factory, early Slayer (Reign in Blood - another perfect one) ... heavy with melody would be Soilwork, Amorphis etc... I love all types but yes Coroner is in the upper echelon of supreme bands.
