Wow, what a different album this one is. It stilleretains the Coroner trademarks, but goes in a different direction. It's actually pretty cool and songs like "Nosferatu" really show what was to follow. The piano and acoustic intros were cool.
Now my copy is one of the recent rereleases under the Sanctuary/Navarro label. The front cover looks the same, but I'm not sure of the scale, since I don't have an original to compare it to. Fold open the book and the three black and white pics are there with some credits above. The last page of the booklet has the tri skull logo. The back cover has the songs in the left border and a pic of three earns with the names of the members on them in the same color as the cover. I really like that touch a lot.
How does this compare with the original?

Sounds pretty much the same as the original.

Wow, the current and past packing does not do these albums justice. There is an aspect of minimalism, in terms of pics, but we could at least get all the original artwork and Smallwood could at least throw in a couple of bucks to do these things right.
Once again, blame has to go right to that piece of crap, Karl U Walterbach.

I think R.I.P. was the last albums of theirs that I got myself. Either that or PFD but those two were definitely the last. Great album. "When Angels Die" is probably my favorite song on it.

"When Angels Die" is probably my favorite song on it. Same here--"When Angels Die" is one of the five songs in my life I ever wished I had written. ;D

I got R.I.P. when it first came out, and it was always Totetanz for me! Plus Nosferatu, of course... ...and Reborn Through Hate! ;D

I took a listen to this again last night driving to and from band practice. Kind of funny because I was so used to hearing the version of "Reborn From Hate" on the Coroner CD instead of this one, I almost forgot there was another verse!

Are the songs on the Coroner CD that much different? That one is the last one I need to complete my collection.
How is the booklet? Loaded with details?

There are a few songs that have some differences. Some easily noticable, some not. All the details are here: www.designvortex.com/coroner/albums/cor_cor.htmIf I remember, the booklet is pretty detailed as far as what was recorded when and by who.

The booklet isn't loaded with details, but some of the songs are different alright! particularly the ones you won't find on any other album! Differences I can remember: 1) Benway's world - new intro track (49 secs) 2) The Favorite Game - completely new track AWESOME!!!3) Shifter - completely new track AWESOME!!4) Serpent Moves - Remixed, not signifiacant, extra chorus repeat, different ending 5) Snow crystal - new intro track (37 secs) 6) Divine Step (CM) - unchanged 7) Gliding above while being below - completely new mellow instrumental track COOL8) Der Mussolini - cover version, not on any albums (not too keen on this one, myself) 9) Last Entertainment - unchanged 10) Reborn Through Hate - minor changes, end merges into a handful of seconds of live recording (very brief!) 11) Golden Cashmere Sleeper, part1 - completely new track AWESOME!!12) Golden Cashmere Sleeper, part2 - completely new mellow instrumental track VERY COOL!13) Masked Jackal - new intro, otherwise unchanged 14) I Want You (SSH) - unchanged 15) Grin (No Religion Remix) - 8:25 dance remix of Grin, personally I LOVE this!! not on any album16) Purple Haze (Radio Live Cut) - mellow weird reggae type version of PH! Bizarre, but in a good way!! not on any albumI probably missed some other little changes & stuff, but generally you can see there's plenty of NEW stuff on it. Get it soon!! ;D The one trick they missed with this was the exclusion of 'Arrogance In Uniform' - I have it on vinyl, and it's a f**king fantastic track!! They should have put it on this CD...

Differences I can remember: Your memory is pretty good, except for this one: Differences I can remember: 6) Divine Step (CM) - unchanged No, they took out the intro that was taken from Re-Animator...guess they either didn't want to pay for it again, or they didn't want to press their luck and risk getting sued if they didn't pay for it/sampled it in the first place. The one trick they missed with this was the exclusion of 'Arrogance In Uniform' - I have it on vinyl, and it's a f**king fantastic track!! They should have put it on this CD... Well, it's on the Doomsday News cd, at least...but yeah, I thought the same thing as well...

Does anyone know for sure if they did have permission originally for this? I'd have to check the CD booklet when I get home to see if they even mention it at all. Does anyone have the 2003 release of Mental Vortex to check to see if it's on there?

No, I'm pretty sure it's not mentioned, since the first time I even knew what movie it came from was when I read about it on this site (obviously hadn't seen Re-Animator yet...need to, I heard it's a kick ass movie!). I thought it came from Flatliners (which I obviously didn't see either), since it came out not long before the cd was released, as it seemed to fit the subject matter.
