sorry, I don't know about that. I suppose he does. He said in an interview on this site that he played violin for 3 years before switching to guitar, and for classical instruments learning to read music is mandatory. Welcome aboard BTW!

welcome aboard man! that's true, you were extremely lucky to witness the wisdom of the man himself!
as for music skills, they're not related to the ability of reading sheets or anything. many musicians, also very skilled ones like Chuck Schuldiner, could not read music at all.
It depends on the personal approach to music.

Chuck Schuldiner??!! What a fuck of a musician!! Not only a great guitarist but a brilliant composer too!!And I'm not even talking about the vocals!! Schuldiner=quality Sadly missed....

Actually it's the vocals that annoy me a bit about Death. I love thick growling like (i.e. Opeth or Necrophagist) and Ron's voice sounds sweet too (err, dunno if that adjective applies here ;D) but Schuldiner at times sounds a bit silly. Great lyrics though (not to mention music!)
