Hello Joe.. this is Les I use the user name of arclight3 now.. Joe the difference between lead and rhythm sounds is the that on the lead sound you must use compression and reverb of course with distortion.. But on the rhythm sound the less reverb you use the more up front and heavy your guitar will sound.. there are a lot of factors in how you will sound in a live band situation such as what kind of amplification and how you have your speakers miked. for a basic set up on a mutieffects unit I suggest the following configuation.. Distortion>Eq>compression>reverb.. you must have the distortion on the highest setting. Or else you will have a very thin sounding guitar.. Joe what is all of your guitar gear and what do use for amplfication?? Also you said you use Korg gear what does it all and how are you using it now?

Joe, you must use more midrange in your solo sound and backoff on the highs.. because this makes your lead sound more brittle and scratchy..... Reverb and compression is were it's at with out these two effects your sound will always fall short of what you are seeking......

I believe Tommy used Eventide harmonizer on his latest work, starting from Mental Vortex and up. That would be hard to replicate since these units are quite expensive. That's where he got his Satriani-like sound from.

I to have been trying to duplicate Tom's sound for years, and have failed miserably. The closest Ive come was "I want you" using a zoom 505 and peavy profex, an old 1963 Ampower tube amp and Ibanez rg550 on the bridge pickup. Tom seems to like compression alot, but he uses it in a way that doesnt sound like hes standing on his n*tz. Hats off to THE best player on this rock.

I have duplicated Tommy's guitar sound many times over I think most of you out there maybe don't understand that your basic distortion amp sound will be you main foundation and all effects that you apply only enhance or duplicate the slick studio processing......Also if you really are serious about getting that mystical ever mind bending Tommy T sound you are going to have to go to the biggest music store in your town, village. city or were ever you exsist and bring your amp.. I know this sounds very extreme BUT!!!!!!!! this is what you must do ... I know I have gone to every music store in my state wisconsin and tried every amp you name it Marshall stacks, peavy amps roland amps randall amps on and on and on I guess you get the point....once there plug in your old battle axe and amp into everything........of course i mean music equipment hahahahah let me know if you find the sound..
