A good friend of mine asked me if I had ever heard of this band about two weeks ago, and I told him I hadn't. He said they were coming to Cleveland on April 21st, so we're going to meet up there for the show. Based on the little material that I've heard so far, they're in the power metal vein of Blind Guardian/Hammerfall/Rhapsody/etc. Not too bad, at least for me anyway. Just curious if anyone else here is into them and what they think of them.

I have a whole bunch of stuff from them on my computer. I'm trying to get into them and it may just happen. They're called "power metal", according to wwwbnrmetal com , but they are promoted in the goth metal circles, which is where I found out about them from.

I've never liked power metal. Allright, actually i hate it. those bands can surely play their instruments, but there is no originality in songwriting and stuff. The routes these bands take are usually either 1) being "neoclassical" by "rediscovering" ( ripping off )classical progressions that have been done to death by Vivaldi alone and 2) copying judas priest and iron maiden riffs . All of this is then wrapped up in a supremely cheesy format. Speaking of SA , they're among the finest practitioners of this style but I still cant like 'em. I kinda like Children of bodom , though, as they've improved quite a lot in the past couple years.

Evergrey is kind of power metal, but also goth, also prog, and lots of thrash.
Ever heard of those guys?

Yeah - The Inner Circle is a fantastic album - saw them at last years Bloodstock in the UK (who said metal was dead in the UK??) Best live band i had seen in a while.

Well, I'm going to see these guys in Cleveland tomorrow night. I'll let you know how it goes. If anyone on here is going to the show, let me know and perhaps we can meet up. I'm meeting a friend of mine from Pittsburgh there, the one that got me into these guys. Should be a good time.
