Along with Coroner, I've noticed that several of the best bands out there were also trios. Maybe it's because with less guys it's easier to form a chemistry. Or maybe they're happier because each guy gets more money! Here's a few of them:
Rush Motorhead Venom Triumph King's X Voivod (yeah, yeah, only a few albums but still...) Budgie Blue Murder Prong
I'm sure there's more that I can't think of right now. Anyway, just an observation. If there's more you want to add feel free.

Zebra was pretty good for a while, don't know about their last album they came out with a couple of years ago though. But since they could all sing and each play several instruments they were very talented.
Rage was also a trio for a very long time as well, as well as Celtic Frost.

How did I forget Zebra I heard one track of their most recent album. Pretty good stuff. Their first album is classic.

How did I forget Zebra Probably because they're not exactly the most prolific band out there: only four studio albums in 20 years (can't believe it's been that long). Hell, I'm surprised you've heard of them! ;D I heard one track of their most recent album. Pretty good stuff. Really? Cool, hadn't heard anything from it, I might eventually get it. Their first album is classic. They kinda went downhill from there ;D I couldn't understand everyone griping over No Tellin' Lies, but I had gotten that album first once I got into them. Now I see how the first album was way ahead of it's time with all the start/stop riffs and tempo changes and all, plus Lies sounds a bit more contemporary. Then 3.V was even more watered down, not being heavy at all. Oh well, they've been around forever.

If you get to know me well enough, you'll find out I know about a LOT of bands ;D Anyway, you can check out the new track I was talking about, Arabian Nights, plus a bunch of other audio and video goodies from them here: www.thedoor.com/html/media_av.htmlGuess I can add the Police too to this list. Forgot about them.

If you get to know me well enough, you'll find out I know about a LOT of bands ;D Of course, being into Coroner and all ;D Guess I can add the Police too to this list. Forgot about them. And I forgot about Mama's Boys; duh! (Until Growing Up the Hard Way, when they got a singer; yeech.) I've only got about four of their albums!

eeeech! how did you not mention SADUS ?? guys, please, go check out an album named ELEMENTS OF ANGER. And - cool to see PRONG listed in there! My fave bands ever are these: SADUS / SONIC YOUTH / KING CRIMSON / CORONER / PRONG > so I guess there are common points here and there! Also KING CRIMSON were a trio at a certain point - even if they were still helped by a number of session players...

Forgot Sadus was a trio (were they ever NOT at one point? I thought I remember one album when they weren't). I didn't mention King Crimson since they technically aren't a "metal" band, but they definitely had a helluva influence on a lot of metal bands (see Voivod and Forbidden's covers of "21st Century Schizoid Man). Give me the Red or Discipline albums any day of the week and I'm happy. ;D

SADUS became a trio in 1994, when guitarist Rob Moore left the band. They did the RED DEMO and ELEMENTS OF ANGER performing as a trio. The next album, due to 2005, will feature them as a trio too.

For me, besides Coroner of course, it's Grand Magus! Great trio.
Most of my favourite bands come in fours & fives though, to be honest!

The Young Gods, Bathory, Winter, I believe Carcass were 3pc at some stage, Armoured Angel, Godflesh (2 men and a drum machine!), Morphine (not metal but too cool not to mention), The Mark of Cain, dare I say Nirvana?, Danzig at some point?
I'll stop now before I enter forbidden territory....
